A blog where I write about Indian classical literature. I share about texts like the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, and the Hitopadesha. I focus on the regional versions from Bengal, talking about the works of Krittibas Ojha and Kashiram Das. As Hitopadesha was composed in Bengal, I have added that. I plan to add more texts in the future. Read through and discover and enjoy the stories they tell and their philosophy.

The scenes include pigeons escaping a hunter’s net ; a tiger tempting a traveller with a golden bracelet near a swamp; a jackal misleading a young deer while a crow watches from a tree; a blind vulture deceived by a praying cat beneath bird nests; a wealthy mouse king surrounded by grain and coins while mendicants observe; a young woman embracing her elderly husband while another man escapes from a rear window; a dead hunter, wounded boar, serpent, and greedy jackal in a forest clearing; a prince and merchant’s wife silently exchanging glances on a road while guards remain unaware; and an elephant trapped in mud while a jackal watches triumphantly. The artwork uses bold black outlines, flat earthy colours, stylized foliage, and the visual language of traditional Bengal pata painting.
