This contains the posts related to Book 1 and as well as the Introductory posts.

A 3×3 painting showing scenes from stories from Book 1 of Hitopadesha. The scenes include pigeons escaping a hunter’s net ; a tiger tempting a traveller with a golden bracelet near a swamp; a jackal misleading a young deer while a crow watches from a tree; a blind vulture deceived by a praying cat beneath bird nests; a wealthy mouse king surrounded by grain and coins while mendicants observe; a young woman embracing her elderly husband while another man escapes from a rear window; a dead hunter, wounded boar, serpent, and greedy jackal in a forest clearing; a prince and merchant’s wife silently exchanging glances on a road while guards remain unaware; and an elephant trapped in mud while a jackal watches triumphantly. The artwork uses bold black outlines, flat earthy colours, stylized foliage, and the visual language of traditional Bengal pata painting.

Hitopadesha Main Page

While retelling the stories, there are many books that I needed to refer to. Here is a brief list:

  • The Hitopadesha (English Translation) by Edwin Arnold.pdf
  • Hitopdesh Of Narayan Pandit With Trans. By Rameshvar Bhat Vraj Jivan Prachya Bharati Granth Mala Series No. 18 Chaukhamba
  • Hitopadesha (with Hindi Translation) published by Motilal Banarasidas publishers.
  •  A Bengali translation of Hitopadesha
A wide four-panel painting. The first panel shows pigeons trapped in a net escaping together with help from a crow, mouse, deer, and tortoise near a pond. The second panel depicts a lion and a white bull seated together while two jackals whisper manipulation behind them. The third panel shows opposing groups of swans and peacocks facing each other beside water with raised royal banners, suggesting growing conflict. The fourth panel portrays reconciliation, with human envoys above and crowned swan and peacock rulers below peacefully shaking hands near lotus-filled water.

I have decided to split the Hitopadesha index into 4 different parts based on the four books.
Doing so will resolve any loading issues that may come up, when posts increase , in future.

The links below will take you to the various books of Hitopadesha.

Ramayana of Krittibas Adi Kanda Index Page

This is an index of the Adi Kanda.

Valmiki calls the first kanda, Bala Kanda, or the chapter/ section that deals with childhood (of Rama).
Krittibas calls it Adi (the beginning) , the Kanda starts much before the birth of Rama.

To avoid memory issues, I am breaking down and classifying the posts into Kanda and dividing each Kanda into smaller parts.

I am planning to do this for all the kandas.

To go back to the main Ramayana index, please click here.

Note: The image below is just for reference and may not be accurate.

References

The following references were consulted for this purpose:

  • Valmiki Ramayana
  • The Ramayana of Valmiki: An Epic of Ancient India: 6 Volumes in 7 parts - Motilal Banarsidass Publications (January 2007 publication)
  • Krittivasi Ramayan (Bengali Edition) - Gita Press (2001 edition)
  • Apart from this, I have referred to many Purana translations for references.

Index

While I was working on adding rows to the Ramayana index, I realized that the index would keep growing and after a time, there would be memory issues.

So instead of waiting for that to happen, I have decided to break the index into smaller parts.

The index will be divided into Kandas and each Kanda will have subdivisions, such that I do not have more than 40-50 posts per index.

All links will be updated manually on Sundays, so there could be a delay between when the post goes live and when it is updated on the index.

The links below will take you to the respective Kanda.

Index

While working on adding rows to the Mahabharata index, it became apparent that the index would keep growing and eventually cause memory performance issues.

Instead of waiting for that limitation to occur, the index is being broken down into smaller, distinct parts.

The index is divided by Parvas, and each Parva will contain its own subdivisions to ensure no individual index page exceeds 40 to 50 posts.

All links are updated manually on Sundays, so there may be a brief delay between when an article goes live and when it appears on the index.

The links below navigate directly to the respective Parva index page.
